A Must-See George Michael Exhibition Lands at Barnbury, Chelsea

This May, Barnbury on the Fulham Road, Chelsea will host a special exhibition celebrating the life and legacy of George Michael through the work of world-renowned photographer Brian Aris.

Timed to coincide with the release of Aris’s new book, Brian Aris / Celebrating George, the exhibition explores three decades spent photographing one of the greatest vocal performers of the 20th century. Hosted at Barnbury, the showcase will run from Tuesday 26 May until Tuesday 9 June 2026.

Original prints will be available to purchase alongside signed copies of the book, offering fans and collectors the chance to own a piece of music history.

Reflecting on their decades-long professional relationship, Aris described George Michael as “always fascinating to work with”, recalling both his immense stage presence and the quieter, more self-conscious side that emerged in front of the camera.

From the early Wham! years alongside Andrew Ridgeley to his later success as a solo artist, the exhibition captures the evolution of an artist who became one of the best-selling musicians and songwriters of all time, with record sales exceeding 120 million worldwide.

Beyond the music, the exhibition also honours George Michael’s legacy as an LGBT rights campaigner and HIV charity fundraiser, as well as his often private and anonymous charitable giving, much of which only became widely known after his passing in 2016.

Aris’s photographs represent an intimate portrait of a hugely talented, thoughtful and generous figure whose music continues to resonate around the world today’ pres
